11 years ago I left my home in the picturesque English village of Bradford upon Avon just outside the City of Bath to take up the job of Art teacher with the Taipei British School, Taiwan.  The school had then just built a new campus in Yangmingshan, but was also still using the old American School on Wen Lin Rd. I had no idea that I would still be here 11 years later, be married to a wonderful wife and have 2 beautiful children, and been part of the transformation of the school into the amazing success that it is.

It was my first time working away from the UK and I think I was in a state of Culture Shock for several months one of my ways to help me feel settled was to travel around the Taipei area making sketches of the fascinating forms of traditional Taiwanese culture. I well remember the friendliness of people who seeing me sketching the boats at Damshui would then invite me to come along and share in some fish soup with them.  Sometimes after work I would sit in the parks of Tienmu sketching the pavil
